Top 6 Games for a Baby Shower

Over the last couple of years there have been lots of new arrivals among my friends and family. This meant lots of baby showers to attend and plan. I would like to think I’ve almost reached ‘pro level’ of baby shower planning and hosting if that was actually a thing!

So here are my ideas for baby shower games to play that have been tried and tested and thoroughly enjoyed by the mum-to-be and her guests:

 1.       Pin the Sperm on the Egg

A hilarious take on pin the tail on the donkey! You’ll need some poster paper to draw the female reproductive system and some coloured paper to cut out some sperm. A blind fold and blue tac and you’re ready to fertilise!

 2.       Guess the Due Date

Another game which guests can participate in throughout the baby shower. All you need is to print off a calendar and label the due date. Include a month before and a couple of weeks after the actual due date. Guests can write their name on the date they think the baby will arrive.

 3.       Chocolate Nappies

This game can be a bit gross but also pretty funny for people like me who love toilet humour! You can play this game in teams or just get the mama-to-be to guess. You will need about 5 different types of chocolate or chocolate bars. Place a bit of each chocolate bar on a nappy and put it in the microwave to melt. You can see now why I said this is gross! Blind fold the person guessing and get them to sniff and taste-test the contents of the nappy.

 4.       Messages on Nappies

Guests are asked to write something funny or encouraging to give mum and dad a little pick me up in the ‘wee’ hours of the night. Easy to set up, you only need permanent markers and nappies. The mum-to-be can actually use the nappies too.

 5.       Guess the Baby Food

This baby shower game can be a team challenge. Items required include baby food (choose 5 different flavours), spoons, cups, pen and paper). Without showing anyone distribute the 5 types of baby food in 5 disposable cups (you could use plastic shot glasses) for each group. Label each cup ‘a’ to ‘e’. Teams have to try the samples and write down what they think each one is.

 6.       Baby Relay Race

I’ve saved the best till last! This game has been an absolute highlight at the three baby showers we’ve played it at and guarantees lots of laughs. You will need a bit of space to run this game but you could adapt it slightly depending on the area you have available. We played this game outside in the backyard. Equipment required for this game: dolls, nappies, nappy bags, buckets (can use baby formula tins), baby wraps/blankets and chairs or tables. The amount required of each item depends on the number of guests you have.

How to set up the game:

Set up 2 rows of chairs (or tables) as shown in the picture. The first line of chairs/table will have a doll, stack of nappies and nappy bags for each team. The next line of chairs will have the baby wraps with a bucket placed on the ground next to each chair (one per team).

 How to play:

First, you will need to organise your guests into teams. The first person in each team runs to the first chair. Here they will put the nappy on the doll. They will then run to the next chair where they will wrap the doll in their blanket. They will then run a few more meters to a target (we used the clothes line or a tree) where they will run around the target 3 times. They will race back to the first chair where they take the nappy off the doll, put it in a nappy bag and throw it in the bin (bucket). Once they have successfully thrown the nappy in the bin they hand the baby to the next person in line.

I hope these games bring lots of fun and laughter to your event and make it a memorable baby shower!
